@hayatoogura_art Is Our ArtResin Winner!

Congratulations to artist Hayato Ogura, our latest ArtResin Winner!  Hayato is an abstract painter based in Fukuoka City, Japan: "I use fluid art to create a base for my work, then add objects to it to create art with a unique worldview."

What's your art background?  Are you self-taught or did you study art?

I have been working as a composer, DTP & graphic designer for a long time. Then, in June 2024, I was deeply moved by Nick Bultman's 33-second short video of his art creation process on YouTube, and I started painting on my own.

I had no interest in drawing until then, so I was really surprised at how dramatically my life changed in 33 seconds.

I am deeply grateful to Nick Bultman for giving me the opportunity.

Are you a full-time artist or do you create around work hours?

I'm a full-time artist.

As soon as I started painting, I decided to become a professional painter, so I immediately quit the company I was working at and changed my life to just painting.

I decided that by forcing myself into a harsh environment, I would gain the strength to make my dreams come true.

What do you love about the mediums that you use in your work?

Fluid art is an art that uses a special medium to prevent colors from mixing and uses the fluidity of the paint to create patterns, but because it has artificial and random parts, it has a deep meaning and is different each time. Work is interesting.

How did you discover resin?

Many famous artists on social media were using ArtResin.

How has resin impacted your artwork?

Most importantly, it gives the work a sense of luxury and persuasiveness.

The second thing is that resin coating makes the work heavier, but this is very important.

This is because weight also gives a sense of luxury.

Try opening and closing the door of a luxury car.

I think you know what I mean.

Thirdly, it is really helpful that if you apply resin coating, even if there is a slight scratch due to an accident, you can repair it.

Can you provide a brief rundown of your process?

When applying resin coating, clean up the room beforehand.

I wipe the floor of my work room, put all my clothes and other things that might generate dust in the closet, and use a sprayer to remove all the dust from my work room.

When I'm coating with resin, I wear clothes that don't generate dust, and I often work with my upper body naked.

That's how much I hate dust - lol.

Why do you want to make art? What motivates you to create?

I have always dreamed of a way of life where I could make money by making things and contribute to the world.

Until my 20s, I dreamed of becoming a rock star, but as I got older, my desire to convey my message through music began to fade.

So for several years when I wasn't creating anything, I was worried about the gap between my ideals and reality.

That's when I started drawing.

For a long time, I thought that music was all I had, but when I let go of that obsession, I felt like a new world opened up to me.

Now, in order to feel like I'm alive, I seriously face my paintings every day and create my dreams.

Does art help you in other areas of your life?

I used to like clothes and furniture in dark tones, but when I started drawing, I started to think that brightly colored things were nice too, and I was surprised at how my own values changed. .

Art has great power, so I let my three cute daughters experience art and teach them the beauty of free thinking.

I feel that art gives us a freer and richer way of looking at various things in life.

What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your art?

I visualize my own philosophy and messages through art.

I want people to feel the power that transcends language, just like music.

How do you define success as an artist? What does that look and feel like for you?

I dream of becoming a famous painter in the world, and I am still in the middle of that journey, but I believe that great success is the accumulation of small successes.

And I don't just chase success, I also happily accept failure.

The reason I have the style of my work now is because I have made many mistakes.

Many failures lead to great successes, and they make me stronger and deeper as an artist.

What's your favorite resin tip you'd like to share with our readers?

I definitely use two layers of resin coating. It feels more luxurious than just one layer.

Where do you sell your work?

I sell my art through e-commerce(https://hayatoogura.official.ec), but it would be helpful if people overseas could send me a DM on Instagram.
