@vs_inkart is our Instagram Winner!

Congratulations to artist Veronica Santiago, our latest Instagram winner! Born in New York, raised in Puerto Rico and currently residing in Houston, TX, Veronica works primarily with alcohol ink and resin:  "I love to create one-of-a-kind art pieces. From coasters to tumblers, I have been able to make items for my loved ones and my supporters who see the value in what I do."

What’s your art background?
I am self taught. When I first started I was so impressed and inspired by all the artists. I always felt that the alcohol ink medium was a beautiful way to express myself. I watched lots of videos and read about how to use this wonderful medium of alcohol inks.

Does where you currently live influence your work?
Absolutely!! I am blessed to have my studio space where I can create and get inspired.

Are you a full time artist or do you create around work hours?
I create around work hours but hoping in the near future to be a full time artist.

When did you discover resin?
I discovered resin in 2020 when I used it for my first alcohol ink project and I fell in love with it. That shine is unbelievable, it's magic! The way the alcohol ink colors come alive is just amazing. I can stare at it all day - lol. It has taken my artwork to another level.

How has resin impacted your artwork?
When I was learning about resin, I was inspired by how beautiful and realistic the colors were. I use resin on my tumblers, coasters, mugs and canvas. Every project is a learning process and when I see the final results, I just fell in love more with resin.

Can you provide a brief rundown of your process?
I create custom and personalized one of a kind tumblers, mugs, and coasters. I layer all my projects with resin. Depending on the project, I start by spray painting (the color depends on the design).  Then, I add the design and add my first layer of resin. Most of my projects take 3 to 4 layers of resin and, typically, it takes a few weeks to get the final product ready for shipment.

Why do you want to make art? What motivates you to create?
I can express myself through my art, my vision and artistic views. My family motivates me: my daughters, grand babies, my partner and my friends.

Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Making art gives me the freedom of creativity and is very therapeutic, especially on those hectic days. Creating art has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone.

What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your artwork?
I want them to feel happiness. I want them to have a smile on their face knowing that they are holding a one-of-a-kind piece that no one else will have.
